Parents’ Prayer for Vocations

ORACIÓN DE LOS PADRES POR LAS VOCACIONES

Heavenly Father, “from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name,” (Eph 3:15) we ask you to bless our family and each child You have given us in Your immense mercy. We entrust and consecrate them to You for Your greater glory and ask that You enkindle in them the fire of Your Holy Spirit so that they may fully embrace the call to salvation that you have made to each one of us. Above all, bestow upon them the Spirit’s gifts of wisdom and understanding, so that they may be able to discern their proper calling in life and their particular pathway for dedicating themselves to the work of Your Kingdom. Grant them also a spirit of deep generosity and faith as they consider how best to serve You with the gift of their lives.

We, their parents, promise to be stewards of their vocations in all the ways that are humanly possible: by teaching them Your Truth, by nurturing them with Your sacraments, and by magnifying Your voice in their hearts. You are the One who calls them, Father, and we are the servants of that call. We wish to be like the Baptist who echoed Your word to the people and then humbly “decreased” in order that You would “increase” in their lives. So may we help our children by pointing out the way, teaching them to listen, and encouraging them to respond fearlessly to Your unique vocation for each of them. Allow us, in our own married life, to be joyful witnesses to the truth that only in following Your call will they find true happiness in this world, despite its sorrows, and complete happiness in the world to come. That is our greatest desire as parents.

And if it be Your will, Father most holy, we ask that you bless our family with the gift of a vocation to the priesthood or religious life for Your beloved Church. We are in no way worthy of such a gift. We only know that You give gratuitously out of the abundance of Your mercy to those who ask, and we beg with all our being for a gift so close to the Hearts of Christ and His Blessed Mother, Mary most holy. Please receive our undying trust that You will bless our promise to care for the seeds of a religious vocation if You choose to plant it in the good soil of our family’s faith. What a joy it would be for us to give back to You a child specially consecrated to Your mission of saving souls!

May You be blessed in all your angels and saints, and in all your ministers, loving Father, now and for all ages, world without end.

Padre Celestial, “de quien procede toda paternidad en el cielo y en la tierra,” (Efesios 3:15) te pedimos que bendigas a nuestra familia y a cada niño que nos has dado en Tu inmensa misericordia.Te los encomendamos y consagramos para tu mayor gloria y te pedimos que encienda en ellos el fuego de tu Espíritu Santo, para que puedan adoptar plenamente el llamado a la salvación que has hecho a cada uno de nosotros. Más que todo, dáles los regales del Espíritu de sabiduría e inteligencia, para que puedan ser capaces de discernir su vocación en la vida y su camino particular para dedicarse a la obra de Tu Reino. Dáles también un espíritu de profunda generosidad y fe mientras que consideran la mejor manera de servirte con el regalo de sus vidas.

Nosotros, sus padres, prometemos mantener tus vocaciones en todas las formas que sean humanamente posible: enseñándoles Tu Verdad, nutriéndolos con tus sacramentos, y magnificando tu voz en sus corazones. Tú eres él que les llama, Padre, y nosotros servimos esa llamada. Queremos hacernos como el Bautista, quien repitió su palabra a la gente y luego humildemente “disminuyó” a fin de que tú pudieras aumentarte en sus vidas. En tal manera queremos ayudarles a nuestros hijos, mostrándoles el camino, enseñándoles a escuchar, y animándoles a responder sin temor a tu vocación única para cada uno de ellos. Permítanos, en nuestra propia vida matrimonial, que seamos testigos gozosos de la verdad de que sólo en el seguimiento de tu llamado van a encontrar la verdadera felicidad en este mundo, a pesar de sus dolores, y la felicidad completa en el mundo venidero. Eso es nuestro mayor deseo como padres.

Y si es tu voluntad, Padre santísmismo, te pedimos que nos bendigas a nuestra familia con el regalo de la vocación al sacerdocio o a la vida religiosa para tu amada Iglesia. No estamos de ninguna manera digna de tal regalo. Sólo sabemos que tú das de la abundancia de tu misericordia a los que piden, y rogamos con todos nuestros seres para un regalo tan cerca de los corazones de Cristo y su madre, María Santísima. Por favor recibe nuestra confianza inquebrantable que Tú bendigas nuestra promesa de cuidar de las semillas de una vocación religiosa si decides plantarlo en la tierra buena de la fe de nuestra familia. ¡Qué alegría sería por nosotros darte un niño especialmente consagrado a tu misión de salvar a almas!

Bendito seas en todos tus ángeles y los santos, y en todos tus ministros, amoroso Padre, ahora y por todas las épocas, de los siglos por los siglos.
