Father Steve Roberts of the Diocese of Lexington is from Cumberland, KY in Harlan County. Always wanting to be a physician, he obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree in 1989 and practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology for several years. Baptized as a Southern Baptist, Fr. Roberts converted to the Catholic faith and entered the Church in Paintsville, KY. After his conversion, he felt that God was calling him to the Catholic priesthood, and after a period of discernment, entered Mundelein Seminary in Chicago where he received his Masters of Divinity and Licentiate in Sacred Theology specializing in Systematic Theology. He was ordained to the priesthood at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Lexington, KY on May 20, 2006. Fr. Roberts went to Rome for doctoral studies in bioethics at the Athenaeum Pontificium Regina Apostolorum and is presently working on his doctoral dissertation in the area of prenatal testing. He was named Vocations Director of the diocese in 2009 and has been the Parochial Vicar of Holy Spirit Parish Newman Center in Lexington since 2010.
