Fr. Jonathan Raia, Vocations Director and Director of Seminarians for the Diocese of Austin, Texas, joined us for this episode.

Fr. Raia says important to his own discernment was being raised in a faithful and vibrant Catholic family. The family prayed frequently which Father says helped him build a foundational friendship with the Lord. He also was encouraged by priests’ involvement in his life and seeing their example and joy. Fr. Jonathan says it was before the Blessed Sacrament in a prayer of discernment to the priesthood that he heard himself say (to himself), “there’s nothing I want more than that.”

In his role as Vocation Director, Father says he recruits, counsels and assists seminarians during their formation to the priesthood. The office also offers programs and retreats for men who are interested in discerning a call to the priesthood. Finally, the office works to foster a “vocation culture” throughout the Diocese.

"For me, it is a great joy to be together with priests." -Pope Benedict XVI
