Archbishop J. Augustine Di Noia OP, serves as Assistant (Adjunct) Secretary for the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith in Rome. He is a friar of the Dominican Province of St. Joseph (Eastern). Growing up in the Bronx, he studied at Providence College and the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1980 and later studied at Yale University where he earned his doctorate in theology.
He taught 20 years at the Dominican House of Studies and was editor of the theological review The Thomist. While teaching he also served for seven years as executive director of the Secretariat for Doctrine and Pastoral Practices of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).
In 1998 he received from the Dominican Order the title of Master of Sacred Theology. From 1997 to 2002 he was a member of the International Theological Commission.
Archbishop Di Noia is also a member of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. In May 2011 he was appointed a consultor to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
On 11 July 2009, he was ordained Archbishop in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and appointed Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship.
On Saturday, September 21, 2013, Pope Francis named him to his present position in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
